Time and time again, we hear from folks both local and afar praise Philly’s writing scene.

Philly’s kaleidoscopic literary community reminds us of the Keats’ sonnet “Human Seasons,” where lines flit from gorgeous lines such as taking in “beauty with an easy span” to the delightfully strange yet melancholic image of ruminating on “Spring’s honied cud of youthful thought.”

At H&H, we wanted to create a reading series that honors this literary ethos and what we feel is the pulse of Philly’s literary culture: its emerging writers.

In 2027, we will be holding 4 readings featuring talented, emerging writers across fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

To be eligible to submit to our Emerging Writers' Series, you must:

1. Live in Philadelphia.

2. Not have a full-length book published (self-published counts). Chapbook publications are okay.

3. Be at least 21 years old.

When submitting:

1. Include your genre in the title.

2. Draft a bio in your cover letter, including previous publications.

3. Make sure you follow word counts and formatting.

4. Do not send anything racist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, or misogynist.
